Things went disastrously wrong. It was a real mess. We tried to {compensate|address the situation, but it was like trying to stop a flood with a cocktail stick. We're still picking up the shards and feeling the sting of this unmitigated catastrophe.

This crisis has spiraled out of control. It's a total disaster. We've tried everything to fix it, but nothing seems to be effective. At this point, it feels like we're doomed. Frankly, I don't know what else to do. This is a train wreck of epic proportions.

This is So Bad, It's Funny (Not Really)

Sometimes you stumble upon situations so awful that you can't help but laugh. It's like your brain tries to process the sheer extent of destruction and just resigns itself to fate, opting for a weak, desperate giggle as a coping mechanism.

But then, you realize that it's not really funny. It's just plain bad. And the laughter you felt morphs into a sigh.

After all is said and done, you are left with a sense of utter perplexity. You question about the nature of it all. Was this a joke?

Or were we just living in a simulation gone wrong?

The earthquake struck suddenly, consuming entire cities in its wake. Buildings collapsed like fragile toys, and the screams that followed was deafening. Worst Day Ever

It all started with a terrible case of morning hair. I couldn't do it to look decent. As I was dashing out the door, I stumbled and landed all over my new shoes. To make matters worse, I was totally running behind for school.

I panting. My {boss|teacher|was absolutely furious. I tried to explain, but it was a complete disaster.

The rest of the day was even worse. was a catastrophe. I get anything done.

By the time I got home, I was utterly defeated. Very bad This day, this terrible day will be forever remembered as an epic fail.

Things Went From Bad to Absolutely Terrible

It all started out terribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then it went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to throw your hands up.
